In the summer of 2006 I graduated from the Royal College of Music in London with a BMus (Hons) degree, having studied piano under Niel Immelman and John Byrne. I started to play the piano at the age of 3, and was tutored in the Suzuki Method studying with Lavinia Ferguson in Bristol. I have performed in venues such as St Georges Brandon Hill and the Colston Hall in Bristol, St James' Church on Piccadilly, the Linbury Studio at the Royal Opera House in London, Symphony Hall in Birmingham, and at the Brussels Conservatoire.
I play a wide range of repertoire, although I have a special interest in lesser known composers of the romantic era, especially in the music of Alkan and Godowsky. I was first introduced to Alkan's music through a seminar that I attended during my first year at the RCM where I heard a performance of the 1st movement of the Concerto for Solo Piano - Op.39 No.8. Following on from this, I decided it was something I wanted to study and to be able to play, and so far have performed the 1st piece in Chants Op.38, the Barcarolle from the 3rd book of Chants Op.65, and, from the epic Minor Key Studies Op.39, the 3rd and 4th movements of the Symphony for solo piano (nos, 6 and 7) and the Ouverture (no.11). For my final examination at the College, I gave what I believe to be only the second ever performance of the Scherzo Focoso Op.34, which was very well received. You can find mp3 files of some of my performances further down this page.
As an accompanist, I have performed in both concerts and exams at the Royal College of Music, at Australia House in London, and at the Royal Academy of Music. Since leaving London I have taken up the post of accompanist to Portishead Choral Society in North Somerset, and accompanied at the Bristol Music Festival. I have also accompanied children at music examinations, at grades ranging from one through to diploma standard. I have worked with instrumentalists on a wide range of repetoire from Bach to Geoffrey Bush, and with singers in both opera and lieder. For three years at the RCM I had a duo with a soprano, with whom I studied scores such as Handel's Operas, Mozart's Requiem, Schubert and Schumann Lieder and George Dyson's songs.
